A 6 hour train ride from Stockholm to Nybro turned into 10 hours after a person was hit by a train on the track we were heading south on. A delay and then of course we missed our train connections so arriving 7pm rather tired and hungry.
Our workaway hosts Tessan and Peter met us and took us out for Pizza in Nybro, a very small town known as the glassblowing region of Sweden. We went to look one day at the museum & factory, the glass products are rather ornate & different, so we didn't help the Swedish economy by purchasing any 🤣.
Our workaway was on a property in the forest, the weather was unbelievably cold for summer, Sherilyn wore thermals, leggings and jacket most of the time, while Deane carried on in his shorts & t-shirt!!!
As soon as we arrived we could tell there was heaps to do.
We missed the bee season by 10 days and it worked out well as they only have 27 hives and plenty of other work to do.
The morning of the first day and the truck delivered the kitset cottage which turned out to take up most of Deanes week. We were able to get the foundation sorted on the Friday afternoon.
Deane and Peter spent all weekend on the walls & roof.
Deane kept on going by himself through the week, constructing the joists and underfloor insulation, no good instructions so he had to watch the Swedish YouTube to get the gist of how everything went together!!
The last day we both spent the day laying all the tongue & groove flooring.
Sherilyn had loads of little jobs on her list. The first day she spent some time cleaning then pottered around doing job by job, really didn't even put a dent in the joblist 🤣
Got to do some bottling of rhubarb and elderflower syrups, the green eggs were interesting (just the shell not the inside yolk)
Cleaned up the vege garden.
There was loads of variety and I didnt get to even start bottling the smoked honey, label jars of honey & syrup, bag walnuts for sale or heat beeswax on to frames.
Got to weedeat around the property and then mow some lawns on the ride-on which was a bonus, Deane usually gets this mowing job, so was a nice change and new skill for me 😃.
Deane also got to have a break one afternoon and do some weedeating around the property and on the edge of the forestry.
