Day In Samfya

Well its great to get up early and head out by 8am, its the only time in the entire day that it is cool, usually a breeze off the lake and the sun is not scorching.

Sherrilyn met with Agnes (bible school princpials wife) to discuss a programme (as organised as any programme in Africa can be) for the week with the women students and workers of the bible school.

The guys met with Peter to discuss the maintenance issues and things that could possibly be done, there is so much maintenance and the buildings are in such bad repair that only the urgent urgent projects are to be done this time we are here. eg: Peters latreen (long drop) is overflowing so they are going to get some local guys in to dig and brick, should last 5 years.

Some boards and iron on the dormitory roofs are to be replaced also. There is a new male and female (double latreen) to be installed at the bibleschool site. So off on the mission to buy timber, nails and find a hammer and a saw, that was the morning cut for the guys!!!

Sherrilyn managed to bump into a lady selling fish on the side of the road, so she purchased some for lunch, took it home and had it gutted and filleted ready for lunch with scrambled eggs when the guys arrived back around 12.30pm, seems to be lunchtime. Siesta time is 13:00 to 14:30 around here and we are all taking advantage of being out of the heat and close to the fan for a short time.

Sherrilyn met in the afternoon with the women from the bible school, Agnes, Juliet, Jennifer and Cecila also at 3pm for an hour was the plan, well they turned up at 3.30 and we left at 5pm. We are going through the "Becoming a Titus 2 Women Book" which they are enjoying but there are very many of the examples that are just not relevant for these women in Africa, however the biblical principles are the same and it is creating huge interest and many discussions and questions.

Roger Deane and Donald took off down the Samfya Beach (without me, lucky they didnt go for a swim) to investigate a new building down there for ideas for the new building structures for the bible school. There have been some good discussions regarding the infrastructure and planning the different stages and phases going forward.

Power goes off just at dinner time most nights, so the roast chicken and veges didnt finish cooking til 9.30pm.

After dinner we cleaned up, did some paperwork and all the guys were rather exhausted form a day working out in the hot sun.

We had the rodents visit tonight, they were such a menace, the were just running up and down the ceiling boards, and they were fighting, you could hear them, at one stage we covered our dinner, afraid of what was going to come through from the roof onto our dinner plates!!!! Oh well I guess they werent as close as under our pillows in Uganda!
