MUKONO - WEDNESDAY JANUARY 30th
Not much sleep (hard bed and dripping water outside all night), bad back, no hot water for a shower and a bit teary today but trying to get myself together. Not too sure what we did today, think it was just sleeping and getting bit organised with some of our stuff and adjust to everything and the heat especially.
Dinner at Hurleys house, said our farewells to Del and Vicki who returned to the USA.
MUKONO - THURSDAY JANUARY 31st
Not very good sleep again, pouring water off the roof outside (plumbing not working again) and bad back. Deane very unwell today – seems like he has picked up Bri’s high fever, sore throat and flu. Shannon and Danielle arrived back during the night. Danielle and Shannon have been amazing and done everything possible to make our transition go smoothly and have made us feel extremely welcome, the children love having older friends so close and it is great to see the 3 girls and the boys also getting along so well. The house has a HUGE kitchen and everything (about from the water, which seems to present Deane with a different problem everyday) is fabulous and I feel like it is going to work well for us this year.
Danielle and I headed into Mukono for fruit/veges and a few groceries (while Zach surfed the internet over at the Post office 1500shillings for 1.5 hours = NZ$1.25. Not sure if I will ever get used to the driving rules here and the roads are atrocious!!
We ate dinner with the Hurley’s again and then headed home for a Dessert evening of hot chocolate and chocolate waffles covered with spraycan CREAM!! With just the Hurleys and Graingers.
Power cut at 8pm – first experience of candles and kerosene lamps, no hot water for showers, something we will have to get used to.
Also have to remember to turn the hot water ON 1 hour before we want a shower. Also we can’t drink the tap water so we have to fill large bottles from the filter down at the Hurleys (usually 2 a day is enough for us) and we have to wash and rinse our teeth with filter water from a bottle or cup! I guess at least we can have hot water, when we remember to turn it on.
