MUKONO - FRIDAY FEBRUARY 1st

Deane not much better today – popping the pills now to try and feel a bit better – 10am and OFF TO TOWN with a hiss and a roar and the worst traffic/driving ever!! Not mentioning any names but we headed for Kampala and got all the household supplies (well most of them but it is hard trying to make decisions when you have 2 men and 3 teenagers standing watching commenting and just hanging around!!! while you are trying to make decisions). We got most of what we needed and Shannon then took us in to town and to the New York Kitchen for pizza lunch – very European mall and Hotel complex.
Next we headed for the Internet Uganda Telecom – everything here takes time, it is nice there are no time pressures BUT when you are trying to get things done quickly its frustrating things don’t move so fast. ALTHO money does seem to get action! 1.5 hours later and we had the forms filled out and paid the US$350!! For a months broadband (supposedly, I guess time will tell) usage, connections, installations and modem PLUS UShillings125,000=$105 for a line but who knows how they ever find us and connect a line, again time will tell. They have plot numbers here (not the sort you are probably thinking) but guess they are like street numbers, our official address is plot 48 Kayunga Road Kubili BUT DONT EVER send anything to this physical address as I doubt it would ever arrive!!
Shannon dropped me off to do groceries while he and Deane went to Celtel to organise the cellphones– took over an hour and then they headed back to collect me – I had to wait at the checkout cos Deane was changing US$ to pay for the groceries. UShillings362,000 for ½ a trolley of groceries = NZ$300
Home at 6.45pm absolutely exhausted, dropped all the appliances and groceries at the door and headed down to Hurley’s for dinner – home and exhausted at 8pm but exciting unpacking and sorting kitchen stuff out.
Currency NZ$1 = 1200 Ugandan Shillings
