MUKONO - SUNDAY FEBRUARY 3rd
Not sure that I will do a daily diary BUT this is a good way to write everything down to remember the first few days since our arrival in Uganda, as I write I don’t feel very settled as we haven’t been in our own home for longer than 15 minutes other than sleep time and feel bit unsettled.
Some of us are a bit sombre today and some even feeling a little homesick.
Church at Hurleys – 9am to 12pm but was very interesting and a great service, followed by lunch with all – 23 people in total – great day.
We then took the vehicle ourselves and headed for Kampala to collect the washing machine. Only been doing one load of washing every 2 days as it takes 7.5 hours to do a load, its that water pressure again!!! Deane wasn’t sure that I could get him there and back without getting lost but I did, there was huge amounts of traffic but we did it and stopped at both the Mukono supermarket and Fruit/vege market – not much room left after Zach and Sam had purchased their crates of COKE!! They had been hanging out all week to get them - UShillings26,000 each for 20 x 500ml bottles = NZ $22 or 1.08 each! Oh but wait a minute they get UShillings20,000 BACK when they return the crate and empty bottles so it works out at NZ.25cents each bottle.
Home, unpacked and got washing machine up and running, oven is like mine at home but only BIGGER and completely gas, unpacked, unsorted and headed out for dinner again – O thats because we forgot to get the gas bottle again, but we actually didn’t have room to fit it in.
Zach and Paul went down to the end of the road, local village and ordered 130 japati’s/tortea’s for tomorrow from the local man that makes them (like tortilla’s or flat breads) and went to another place to buy the dry kidney beans for nacho’s, so Zach is very confident and enjoying the chores of ordering and buying food for us all.
Home at 7.30pm to make coffee and guess what POWER CUT again, apparently it happens every other night so we will be prepared for Tuesday night!!!
