Sightseeing & Markets

Met Bri and Ross this morning, it was great to see them after 4 months. We headed out for a proper coffee and bagel before hitting the sights of Delhi & New Delhi.
Went to the Khan markets, which had 55,000 positive reviews but when we got there, there wasn't many people and the markets were all small label shops. Had a walk around but not what we were looking for.
Took an uber to the Indian Gate and walked up to the Parliament buildings
It was super impressive to see so much green grass, well kept gardens and trees in the middle of this city.  The Delhi metropolitan area houses 33,000,000 people!
We then took the next uber nz$3 for all 4 of us was average price we paid, 15 mins down the road and visited the National Musuem

After this we got an uber to the largest markets in Delhi, Chandni Chowk  markets.  What an adventure!!!  We were sure half of Delhi was there! It was absolutely caotic but totally what we expected of Delhi.
People, tuk tuks everywhere bumper to bumper jammed in, not a cross word from anyone, just a slight maneuver one way or the other and the fastest got the opportunity to move,
Stopped at a local restaurant for some street food before heading back out into the markets for another look around, heaps of food on the sidewalk, wires hanging would be an electricians nightmare, that's what uoi can see
.. Imagine the plumbing situation, we were trying hard not to think about that.  It was true what someone had told Ross, India will certainly activate your 5 senses!!!

Had to walk on the road for half an hour, it was the quicker way out of the markets at 5pm, then we took a tuk tik the last 15 minutes before arriving back in the area of our hotel where we braved a local restaurant. The food was good but can't say I'm used to eating butter chicken with a roti and my fingers.
Deane found his new favourite, these donut looking balls filled drenched in syrup 😋... his end of day sweet treat.  To me they tasted like mums golden syrup steam pudding.
