We Survived the NEGEV!!!!

Hard to believe we have been and gone, it was an amazing feeling packing up & leaving after 14 days straight, grazing the sheep morning & evening without a break away from the farm.

The early mornings, boredom throughout the day, and then picking ourselves up to head out in 39C at 4.30pm is over, YIPPEE!!  I made Deane stay the entire time so he would never consider doing anything so crazy again! Thankful we ditched the next month at the goat farm!! Which of course has changed our plans, but hey, no flights booked so nothing to lose!!

Of course, we knew it was summer, we knew it was the desert & we knew it would be hot, BUT we didn't know it was going to be the hottest 2 weeks in Israels history .... the summer of 2023 heatwave!!! 42C+ most days in the desert. One day it was 50C at the Dead sea only 40 minutes drive away!

So thankful we didn't
*get eaten by jackels, foxes or hyenas;
*didn't get bitten by snakes in the reserve we were grazing;
* didn't die of heat exhaustion- although some afternoons we were close to it;
*didn't suffer any major injury, thankfully Sherilyn didn't get seriously hurt on the 3rd day when she was walking behind the sheep and Deane sent the dog out around the back of them, the dog went flying under Sherilyns legs & she face planted the dust & dirt, Deane said from vertical to horizontal in 1 second 🤣 landing straight on her shoulder & hip! A sore collarbone and massive bruise but they seem to have healed now!

Anyway got to read a couple of books, extreme opposite topics but filled in some time.

Workaway lessons  so far:-
* We're too old for tenting!
* We need self contained accomodation
* We need to be in charge of our own food ... hosts supply too many carbs!!! moose 🫎 🫎 sausage casserole still rates as the worst meal yet! 🤢
* Don't go to a desert again
* Don't do workaways in summer
* Don't stay longer than one week
Deane says DONT DO anymore workaways!!! Time will tell .... once he's recovered from the desert experience and gets bored doing nothing!!  Anyway nothing tried is nothing gained.
