Nicosia City

Got to have a bit of a look around the City of Nicosia, not really a vibrant or busy city.
We walked around the Old city wall and visited The Liberty Monument which was erected in 1973 to honor the anti-British EOKA fighters of the Cyprus Emergency of 1955 - 1959.

Lots of old buildings and history, some places have been well maintained, others have been just let go.

Here it is very similar to Palermo Sicily, without the vibrance, tourists and noise!!! The streets are rather deserted, could be something to do with the heat or maybe the city is still closed down for summer holidays.
Deane said the only people you see are the streets are a handful of tourists (us included) or Africans that dont mind the heat! 😀
Sunday we found an english speaking church run by a young Pastor from Wales, married to a Cypriot woman.

After a 35 minute walk to get there, we arrived dripping with perspiration from the heat 🤩 it was encouraging to meet local people, sing some worship songs and listen to a great sermon on Matthew 6 vs 25-34 .... dont worry / dont be anxious.

Then found an authentic Cypriot restaurant with Greek flavours for some lunch before walking back to the house .... enjoyed a cloudy, windy and not so hot day today!

We visited the Schacolas Tower museum which gave us 360° views of the city and the wall over to Northern Cyprus, plus some history of the city too.

Then surprise, surprise I found my favourite italian pasta sauce  ... Pesto Rosso ... (not been able to buy anywhere since leaving Sicily) so we cooked pasta for dinner and then got to enjoy a hour thunder, hravy rain & lightening storm which brought a cooler evening.
