BBQ by the Gaza Strip

Our workaway host donated a sheep to his friends for a beach BBQ and invited us to meet them, enjoy a swim, BBQ and the view.
His friend is a fisherman and has a setup behind locked entrance on the Mediterranean Sea.

As we drove to the entrance we passed a large enclosed Military base and saw the large tower.  In the middle section of the tower is where the young Israeli soldiers sit, guarding the border both land & sea, even our hosts daughter worked there and one evening a couple of years ago saw 11 men in wetsuits coming out of the water on the wrong side of the border which caused huge military action.😐

As we arrived on the beach we saw the fence, the border between Israel and the Gaza strip just 150m down the beach.

WOW, it was surreal, you read &  hear much of these places but never believe you will ever be that close!
Obviously staying with locals you definitely get to see & hear alot about a different Israel than what you see as a tourist!!!  I realise that's the same in any country you visit.
Deane got to swim in the Mediterranean,  it was rather warm tho, the water 30 degrees!

Enjoyed a great evening & BBQ, met people from all walks of life with many different thoughts & beliefs.
