After a long morning driving around in the hot sun, we got back to Palermo and had some lunch, then like all Sicilians not the tourists, we headed home to the apartment for an afternoon in the cool!!!
eating out starts anytime from 7.30pm, so we headed up to the square and down the alley to one of our local favourite restauarants, grilled vegetables for me and Peppi Spagetti for Deane ( his new favourite pasta dish - spaghetti, chilli, garlic, breadcrumbs & loads of olive oil, of course covered by Deane with parmigiano!!! )
Having trouble with the translation of some words, there was an English man sitting next to us, he offered to translate, he's here in Palermo for a year teaching English, so that was really helpful
Deane got talking with him, he said something had bpught him to this restaurant tonight, he was looking for something but he had no idea what it was. He said he had lived in many places including Italy UK and Kampala, so we had lots to talk about, our reasons for being in Kampala and Palermo. He is a linguist and is amazed by the universe, of course this got Deane excited and he said that was cool, but being amazed and interested in the Creator not the creation would be more eternally beneficial. They talked for over an hour, he had heard the good news of Jesus Christ, he had been put off religion because of past church experiences and stuff. He asked lots of questions and when we paid to get up to leave he asked us to go with him to another restaurant for more conversation & company.
He kept saying he believed something had bought us across his path that night. We exchanged phone numbers and who knows .......
