We travelled through the middle of the island and as the ministries here and Catania didn't work out, we decided to drive around the base of Mt Etna, 3329 metres hire, the highest active volcano in Europe, outside the Caucasus. Mt Etna is the highest peak in Italy south of the Alps.
We stopped for lunch in this amazing hillside town called Belpasso, sooo cute.
From here somewhere & somehow (and it is easy for the navigator to get it wrong but you have no idea how many signs each corner has and all of them have an arrow pointing in a different direction!!) we missed a turn off and instead of heading around the base of Mt Etna we went up as far a step you could drive to the top of it!!! Great view tho, it was smoking a little on the day we were there but also a bit of cloud cover.
