the man that digs the latreen has finished after 2 days digging 2 metres long x 1 metre wide - ush10,000 = nz$4.50 per foot that he digs. the man in the photo helps by lowering a cutup jerry can down which the digger fills and then is hauled up in the end of a rope - they do 2 to 3 latreens oer week. It is 20 ft deep and should last 20 years - 1 ft for every year, depending on how many beans and matoke is eaten!!! haha
the latreen will be finished by digging and concreting a slab on top of the hole for standing on and then having a brick surround.
again thanks to a generous donation Alex and Simon will now have their own latreen rather than using the neighbours one 200metres away!
