We were up at 5am to catch the bus, and thankfully leave the Backpackers!
After a ferry ride to cross back on to the mainland we headed for the border and into Tanzania.
13hours later the bus arrived in Dar Es Salem - our driver was hijacked, we were kidnapped and held hostage, locked in a car with 3 men demanding Money and threatening our lives, if we didn't give them what they wanted they would shoot us!
3 hours later, after robbing us of our money and taking us to the ATM machine to withdraw funds from our credit card, they let us go, gave us our credit card back and some shillings for a taxi drive!
We were terrified and traumatised and after being chased by another car of thugs, and getting lost in the taxi we got to take us to the guesthouse we were supposed to be staying at, we decided we'd had enough and just wanted to go home, we no longer felt safe.
We arrived at the airport at 11.30pm, reported our kidnap and robbery. The security guard was helpful and took us into the secure area of the airport, where we were safe and spent the next 17 hours, without food or water until we were able to transfer our flights out of Dar to Dubai.
