Well we didnt get enough fuel in Samfya when we left and it was a great discussion point the whole weekend as to who knew best about how much we had left and how far we had to go.
The fuel light came on much sooner than hoped for and there was no diesel in sight for the first 3 villages we came across. We arrived at the 4th village, thankfully, to find a man had some diesel for sale, it took a good half an hour to find it, nothing happens in a hurry here, and at a inflated price of course which under the circumstances he had it, we needed it!!! cos there was no way we were going to make it to the junction where we knew was the next stop.
Deane drove the first leg, then Donald drove the second stretch before Roger got in for the home straight. Unfortunately 3/4 of the way the air conditioning belt snapped and came off so the last part of the journey was with windows down, no air conditioning and still around 35 degrees at 6 - 7pm. We arrived at Lusaka around 7.30pm and headed straight for the bus station to get our tickets for the bus trip to Livingstone next day. Had a little bit of difficulty in finding the guesthouse accomodation.
So we left at 11.20 am and arrived at 7.30pm and in true male style we only had 3 5 minute stops the whole entire trip!! Most of our bodies were numb by the time we arrived, it had been fairly squashy most of the way. Poor Hoggie was a real trooper, he sat in the back of the vehicle with 6 mattresses rolled up and around him.
