Well the day had to come, unfortunately and after a great time of fun, laughs and encouragement the team had to go back to New Zealand.
Friday we spent the day in Kampala, we did a trip to Mulago hospital, childrens cancer ward and had previously prepared shopping bags including some personal items for the patient and family, because there is nothing given out to patients or family for food or personal hygiene use at the hopsital. It was a real eye opener they were SO excited to receive their own personal bag with food, biscuits, tea bags, soaps, toothbrushes, flannels, sugar, juice. We spent some time talking with some of the patients and we gave out 50 bags, we could have been there all day and given out hundreds of bags but it really made us feel hopeless and helpless for helping them
We headed to Kampala city (we collected Warwick from the Dr's Surgery) he had been feeling unwell for a couple of days and ended up having selmonella, so it was worthwhile getting him checked out before flying out, cos he was able to get some antibiotics into him.
We had lunch and then headed down to the African village for some souvenir shopping, there was no stopping them, not sure who did best, close tie between Cal and Al!!!
Down to Entebbe guesthouse for the last night, great place, nice and peaceful and 5 minutes for delivery to the airport at 5am tomorrow morning. We had a evening meal out on the lawn together, Herman wasnt feeling too great by that time so he decided no more food.
Saturday 5am up and off to farewell the team at the airport, the great thing here in Uganda is that you cant walk in the departure lounge, only the passengers get to go so its "drop and run"! Always makes saying goodbye a short and sweet event.
Only 5 weeks to go and then it'll be us on the plane heading back to NZ ourselves.
