#2Justine must be the most popular name in the village!!!! This young girl arrived at the house and Simon went out to talk with her, he came back and said she wants to talk to Aunt Sherrilyn!!! How do you know her he asks, I said I don’t, I’ve never seen her before in my life!!!
Turns out she had heard of the muzungu’s that had moved in and wanted to come talk.
She had a problem she told me, in very good English! We went round the front of the house and talked, she had had to drop out of school because her parents couldn’t afford to pay the school fees any longer – her father has two wives and 5 children to each wife!! Her first request was if I could give her a job for the rest of the year so she could save up the Ush 150,000 x 3 terms for next years school fees. Not like I had much extra housework so I couldn’t give her a job. Deane’s calling out “Hon don’t promise her anything you can’t give her!!!!” I have learned that you JUST CANT help everyone and everyone here seems to have a sad story, but Ush 450,000 shillings over a year is a lot of cash!!!
Well she came back the second day all dressed up and left feeling a bit sad, some of them really know how to give a sad sob story and boy you sometimes feel really mean for not helping them but there are people much more genuinely in need than others, just like Justine (3) that we have now met.
