The weather has been really warm, the locals are finding 30+ degrees extremely hot and there are indications that Sweden is in for a drought, with firebans & water restrictions already in place in some areas.
The evenings are still very long and light, we are sleeping better - getting used to only 3 hours of darkness between 12am and 3am, but its no wonder people are up out & about early. We guess the locals make the most of the sunlight hours in the summer as here in Ucklum they say its 9 months of cold wet -20 degree days 😫 mostly for the rest of the year.
Mid summer day is celebrated 23rd June and apparently the long light night hours disappear noticebaly very quickly after this date!
Deane has been busy adding a deck and set of stairs to the upstairs room in the cafe most of the week, waiting for some more materials to get the job finished before we complete our first workaway in 3 days.
We have also been busy pruning all the fruit trees in the little orchard, probably some havent ever been pruned!!
Of course a helper is always needed to pick up all the prunings into piles, guess who got that job 🤪🤩 but at least I didnt have to haul them all to the fire heap that was 150m away .... thats a job for the next team of workawayers 🤣
Sherilyn has been busy helping in the large vegetable garden, mainly putting straw and mulch around all the vege plants & in the potato patch, plus clearing up the paths in the garden, as well as mulch in the flower gardens too as everything is very dry. Currently finishing off placing cardboard under all the berry bushes to keep mositure in the ground and make berry picking easier!
Really enjoyed pottering and mowing pathways between the trees in the orchard.
The Thistle Inn is also an Air BnB so there has been tidying up in the room, the wagon & tiny house between guests.
It was an easy job to mow a path down to the wagon & tiny house and then rake away all the sheep poop so that the guests didnt end up with it in their shoes 🤣
