Feel like I need to tell you this story.
Our friend that we met the other day, J from Nigeria travelled with us to the Refugee home, so I talked to him about his journey........
SO his parents took out a US$6,000 loan to get him to Italy, they paid some of the money and he was put in a truck that crossed the Sahara, he travelled the entire way to Libya under a tarpaulin stacked two high lying down on top of each other like sardines on the back of the truck!
They were each given 1 gallon of water for the entire trip! -approximately 72 hours!!!
When they arrived in Libya they paid more of the money to get from Libya to Italy, he way the guy that came across spending 2-3 days (he can't quite remember) on the pontoon before being rescued by the authorities and placed in a dinghy.
His family borrowed the money to get him here, that was 5years ago, his application for asylum has been refused because he is NOT running from persecution - he is only seeking a better life!!
His parents are still working hard on the land to clear the original debt PLUS the interest that has accumulated over that 5 years.
J is not the only person, there are 100,000's with the same story and others that have rich parents that could afford to send them and they still do not have documents.
Yet they still keep coming, no matter how bad it is here, they think they are going to be the one with the LOTTO story, THE BIG WINNER !!!
Only last Friday there was a boat with 100 people that capsized and they were lost in the ocean forever!!
