12th – 17th August Family Holiday
Well after 6 months of roughing it in the village we are all pretty worn out and tired. We are all feeling tired, Bri has had Malaria for the second time, Sam has had his 3rd bad foot infection in the last month and Deane is still recovering from the gigger (he is on to the second lot of antibiotics). So we decided it was time to take a break, relax and recharge the batteries. We looked at lots of options BUT the cheapest because of the missionary discounts we can get was a visit to Queen Elizabeth National Park (yes I know we didn’t come on the safari with the teams – sorry!!!) After a 7 hour drive from Mukono we finally arrived – it was dodgems all the way avoiding the potholes!! It was a hot hot day too but it was so exciting to see the different landscape – some parts of the way even reminded us of home – dry dry land of Waimarama hills in the middle of summer. Looked just the same. The land was much more sparsely habituated and dry but we were just so pleased that we had come to a different part of the country – where we are staying is the Kingfisher Lodge which is on top of a cliff looking down over the savannah. A reasonably new lodge that is still being developed but reasonably priced and full buffet breakfast and dinner included in the reasonable prices. We left a day earlier than planned and had hoped to get some accommodation on the way but nothing really looked that great so half way to the National Park we called to see if we could book in a night earlier – it was great we got two double rooms on the cliff edge looking over the savannah – great views for the night before moving to the family unit at the back of the property, unfortunately without the great views but thats ok.
