NZer arrives

Well its been a busy week, to the airport to drop the Hurleys off Friday 20th June.

Back to the airport to collect Daniel Rogers, fellow NZer and friend from Riverbend Bible Church who has come to do the electrical work (originally) on the houses to be built at Luwero. Foundations aren't started yet but I'm sure Daniel will have plenty to do and Deane is enjoying having the company and someone practical and DIY that he can discuss his ideas and plans for the next part of the development with. Hopefully Daniel might get to place an electrical wire somewhere before he leaves in November. Daniel is currently staying with us as the mission teams arrive this week and there are many people coming and going over the next month or so in the Hurleys house. SO as long as Daniel can hack it living with us he will stay in our house at least until the end of July. Elaine will be so pleased, Daniel knows how to use the washing machine, wash dishes, make a bed and cook a meal - he has been very helpful and we are enjoying having a fellow NZer in the house.

No time for Daniel to get over jetlag OR the flu, Tuesday we headed to our house at Kubamitwe village and straight into the fencing. He helped concrete the final two 150metre runs and he and Deane discussed a few of the things for the next stage.

There until lunchtime Thursday and off to the airport again, we headed down through Kampala, grabbed a pizza and got stuck in traffic on the way to the airport. A friend of the Hurleys was arriving from the US so we were off to collect him, he had no idea who we were or vice versa. We were still stuck in traffic at 7.10pm in Kampala, the expected arrival time of the plane so we had to motor to the airport. Luckily the plane was 45 minutes late and after Deane got stopped, directed out of the vehicle and threatened with "a court hearing" for not stopping at the airport border control (even tho the sign to STOP was unlit and facing the opposite direction!) we still made it to the arrival area before Ryan arrived. We asked a couple of people before wemet Ryan and then we got in the vehicle and headed back to Mukono - arriving 10.30pm - 7 hours after we had left Kubamitwe, feeling rather exhausted. Also I now know why we dont drive around much at night here - the drivers are crazy in the day, worse at night with pedestrians walking all over the road, drivers, taxis, boda's and even some vehicles with no lights.

Friday Deane Daniel Zach Sam and Ryan headed off to order the barbed wire and then the steel man and organised some stuff for the fence - 6 hours later they arrived home.

Saturday Deane and I went to a local school with Paul (who lives in the Hurleys house) as his parents so that we could sign the register and he could continue at school for the rest of the term.

Saturday we (just our family) headed back to Entebbee with all the luggage for the TMC team (8 large suitcases) and to have dinner and say goodbye - we had a great time with them and it seems funny that as I type they will nearly be back in USA. We have said goodbye so many times over the last 6 weeks as they have headed off on another mission adventure but always returning. This time it was a final goodbye - in Uganda anyway - as they have talked us into flying through LA on the way home.
