Deane was busy working the other day when this man from the next village turned up - he is teaching the villagers to read and write and is a christian. He had heard Deane was taking a bible study in Kubamitwe and asked him if he would come over on Saturday late afternoon and take a bible study with his villagers. Deane agreed and we headed down to the trading centre, we got there and no-one was there and over the next 40 minutes people came from all over the place, carrying benchseats and mats for sitting on. There must have been 75 people (45 adults and 30 kids ) turn up and they stayed and listened to Deane go through lesson one of Shannons "Quest for Truth" study. They were all really attentive and at the end asked some really interesting questions and Deane gave them our story of how and why we had ended up in East Africa.
After they had finished they gave us a puppet show and some awesome African drumming. Then Bbossa asked me if I would say something to the women since there were men and women there. Nervously I greeted and thanked them for coming in Luganda, i think they were surprised by my efforts, which I ALWAYS seem to get tongue tied when there are many people. Anyway at least I gave it a go!!!
Bbossa asked us if we could make this a regular meeting for bible study so we have arranged to meet with them every wednesday at 3pm. There is so much opportunity and a hunger to hear Gods word in this village area so we are hoping that we will be able to get some funds and purchase Luganda bibles, we have already given out 20 odd bibles to the people of Kubamitwe.
